What Makes a Coin a Coin

The polished blanks are firmly secured in a round collar, located inside the large automatic minting press between the top and bottom dies. Each the press is activated, the impact of the dies on the blank within the collar force the metal to "flow" into the recesses of the die, giving each finished medallion its unique appearance.

After being struck, the coins are then put through the finishing process.
